Blogs – Who Knew?
Indeed, Who Knew? By all accounts, blogging started in 1999. So why has it taken me seven years to start my own blog? Dah! I guess I’m not as entrepreneurial as I thought.
WHAT IS A BLOG?
A blog is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.
WHY START A BLOG
The reason I have started this blog – notice the title: blogging for success – is to improve the search engine ranking of our website (http://www.wwwcomm.com/). This, I think, will bring more qualified clients to our website. Once there, they will learn about us and perhaps want to use our services. This of course can lead to increased revenues and higher profits. What a wonderful concept! Here is a quote from Blogspot.com about the value of blogs for businesses:
Blogs are no longer just online personal journals – they are now key business tools. Blogs allow you to engage in a conversation with your customers while improving your website’s search engine rank.
Don’t know where to start? Well, I’m using WordPress blogging software for this blog. The challenge, though, is figuring out what you want to do with your blog in order for it to work as a viable marketing tool to help grow your business. That’s where I come in. The purpose of my blog is to share key tactics for successful business blogging so that you can start your own blog and use it to grow your business.
We happen to be in the business of creating custom blogs for our clients. Here are a few that we have designed using the WordPress platform:
So I’m blogging about blogging. In the next few posts I will discuss the various reasons why every business needs a blog. Your comments are welcome!
Happy blogging!

The Jewish Copmmunity Foundation (JCF) has a strong need for visibility on the web and needs a way to draw people to our web site at http://www.jcfsnj.org. Perhaps blogging might be a way to achieve this goal.
